CatchChar

Bring up CatchChar with a hotkey – the default is Alt + Shift + C. Then use CatchChar to insert special characters into any editor or application. That is, in a nutshell, the functionality you can expect to get from CatchChar. This is a free and easy to use application that can be used to insert Unicode characters.

A setup wizard will install CatchChar on your PC. Just download a small installer, run it, and click through the setup wizard. In just a few clicks you will be done with the installation process. If you take catchchar.exe from the installation folder, copy it to a portable drive, and rename it catchCharportable.exe, you can use it as a portable tool.

While CatchChar is running you will notice an icon in the system tray. Left click the icon and you will be presented with a settings window that allows you to access the Help file, manage characters, change the hotkey that brings up CatchChar, and stop the application.

Using CatchChar is a fairly simple process. Say you’re typing something in a TXT file and you need to add the © character. Just use the Alt + Shift + C hotkey to bring up CatchChar’s list of special characters. Select the character you want and it will be inserted in your TXT file. It is all incredibly simple.

CatchChar is free software. You can use it for as long as you want and you don’t have to part with your hard earned money.
